The "Bowie knife" is famous from the [Sandbar Fight](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2838/sandbar-fight/) of 1827, during which [James 'Jim' Bowie](https://www.worldhistory.org/James_Bowie/) first used such a knife to effect.
