Mohenjo-daro is one of the world's earliest major urban settlements, contemporaneous with the civilizations of ancient [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/), [Mesopotamia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mesopotamia/), and [Crete](https://www.worldhistory.org/crete/). The [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) was abandoned around 1800 BCE and rediscovered in 1922 CE.
