*The General History of the Things of New Spain* or *[Florentine Codex](https://www.worldhistory.org/Florentine_Codex/)*, an ethnographic codex by Bernardino de Sahagún, Book 7, Folio 9v, Mexico, 16th century.
Written in the mid- to late 16th century, this collection of images and histories is one of the most important sources of information about [Aztec](https://www.worldhistory.org/Aztec_Civilization/) and early Spanish Mexico. With over 2,000 illustrations across 2,500 pages and 12 books, this extensive work was worked on by native artists who preserved the unique style of [Aztec art](https://www.worldhistory.org/Aztec_Art/). This image depicts pages of the seventh book centered on astrology and natural [philosophy](https://www.worldhistory.org/philosophy/).
