A depiction of a maize plant, one of the staple crops of the [Aztec](https://www.worldhistory.org/Aztec_Civilization/) peoples of Mexico. The image shows the structural details of the ear with husk, kernels, and partial stem. The *Florentine Codex* includes many depictions of maize, featuring it in a number of different aspects of Aztec life.
