## Image Caption

*The Brave Boy of the Waxhaws*, lithographic print by Currier & Ives, 1876.

Depicted here is a young [Andrew Jackson](https://www.worldhistory.org/Andrew_Jackson/) (1767-1845), current captive of the British in the [American Revolution](https://www.worldhistory.org/American_Revolution/) and future president of the United States, being struck by a redcoat officer after refusing to clean the man's boots. The scars left by the officer's saber would serve as a symbol of Jackson's enmity towards [Britain](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Britain/).
