*Lorenzo the Magnificent Receives the Tribute of the Ambassadors*, [fresco](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Fresco/) painting by Giorgio Vasari, c. 1556-1558.

This fresco shows a crowd of ambassadors giving gifts to Lorenzo de' Medici, the Magnificent, as he sits on a raised throne. Envoys from Italian nations, such as Naples, Milan, and Bologna, lay riches before Lorenzo; in addition, emissaries from faraway lands like [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/) are also present, as shown by the parrot, camels, and giraffe. The Medici's reputation as a powerful banking family was well known in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, and they were treated as members of the landed aristocracy despite their origins in commerce and finance.

Palazzo Vecchio Museum, Florence.
