The [Tophet](https://www.worldhistory.org/Tophet/) of Carthage is a hybrid sanctuary-necropolis of [Punic](https://www.worldhistory.org/carthage/) Carthage. Originally dedicated to the deities [Baal](https://www.worldhistory.org/baal/)-Hammon and Tanit and used between c. 400 and 200 BCE, this Carthaginian site for sacrifices and burials features short stelae engraved with simple geometric shapes and symbols.
