Heiress, businesswoman, writer, and philanthropist, Driscoll (1881-1945) became known as the "Savior of the [Alamo](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2805/the-alamo/)" for her efforts in preserving and restoring the Alamo historic site, many structures of which were in disrepair at the time. Upon her [death](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Death/), her body was lain in state at the Alamo chapel before [burial](https://www.worldhistory.org/burial/).
