The [Alamo](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2805/the-alamo/) Cenotaph, photograph by Loadmaster (David R. Tribble), 2013.

Located near the front of the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, the 60-foot-high memorial depicted here commemorates the defenders of the famed fortress at the [Battle of the Alamo](https://www.worldhistory.org/Battle_of_the_Alamo/) during the [Texas Revolution](https://www.worldhistory.org/Texas_Revolution/). Commissioned in 1936, the cenotaph features carvings designed by Italian-born sculptor Pompeo Coppini, with the names of those who died at the Alamo etched along the base.
