Depicted here is the work of artist Reynold Brown (1917-1991), best known for his evocative movie posters, including those done for other famous films such as *Ben-Hur* (1959) and *[Spartacus](https://www.worldhistory.org/spartacus/)* (1960). *The Alamo* (1960) stars John Wayne, Richard Widmark, and Lawrence Harvey as [David 'Davy' Crockett](https://www.worldhistory.org/David_Crockett/), [James 'Jim' Bowie](https://www.worldhistory.org/James_Bowie/), and [William Barret Travis](https://www.worldhistory.org/William_Barret_Travis/), respectively. The film, directed by Wayne, is considered by historians to be many people's introduction to the story of the 1836 siege and [Battle of the Alamo](https://www.worldhistory.org/Battle_of_the_Alamo/).
