*Polonia 1863 (Poland Enchained)*, oil on canvas painting by Jan Matejko, 1864.

Depicted in Matejko's allegorical artwork is the ill-fated [January Uprising of 1863](https://www.worldhistory.org/January_Uprising_of_1863/), with the central figure in black, a personification of Poland, resting her hands upon an anvil to be enchained. Behind her, a woman, Russia, struggles against a tsarist officer. On the left, the corpse of a partially bare figure, Lithuania, lies in blood.

National Museum in Kraków.
