Antonio León y Gama's (1735-1802) work, published in Mexico [City](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) two years after the Sun Stone was uncovered during construction, included this highly detailed rendition of the monolith as it was first seen since having been buried in the 16th century. The colossal [sculpture](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Sculpture/) depicts at its centre the four previous suns (or eras) within a glyph of the fifth sun of the current era.
