William Barret Travis, an instrumental figure of the Texas independence movement, perished at the [Battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) of the [Alamo](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2805/the-alamo/) on 06 March, 1836. His [death](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Death/) earned him martyrdom and a rallying cry for the Texas revolutionaries.
