Depicted here is the morning after the [Battle of San Jacinto](https://www.worldhistory.org/Battle_of_San_Jacinto/), fought April 21, 1836. Captured General Santa Anna, commanding the Mexican forces, surrenders to General [Sam Houston](https://www.worldhistory.org/Sam_Houston/) of the Texian army, who lies wounded from injuries sustained in the fight. The [battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) would be the decisive engagement in the [Texas Revolution](https://www.worldhistory.org/Texas_Revolution/), leading to the end of Mexican rule over the territory.
