Harding's portrait, a marked depiction away from the consummate frontiersman [David 'Davy' Crockett](https://www.worldhistory.org/David_Crockett/) (1786-1836) came to be known as, was painted while Crockett was a Tennessee congressman. After his final tenure in office, Crockett joined in the [Texas Revolution](https://www.worldhistory.org/Texas_Revolution/), where he would perish at the [Battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) of the [Alamo](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2805/the-alamo/) in 1836, cementing his role as a mythic figure in American folklore.
