The coronation of [Charles VI of France](https://www.worldhistory.org/Charles_VI_of_France/), illumination on parchment by Jean Fouquet, in *Grandes Chroniques de France,* c. 1455-1460.

Charles VI was crowned King of France in 1380, at the age of 11, by the Archbishop Richard Picque in Rheims. The young king's rule would be under a regency by his uncles for the first 10 years of his reign. The vivid colors shown here in the image showcase the wealth and splendor of the French royal court; on the other hand, the various nobles and clergymen surrounding the young king foreshadow the mismanagement and corruption of the decade-long regency that is to come.
