Watkins (1839-1901) was an American author and Civil [War](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/War/) veteran best known for his vivid war memoir *Company Aytch: Or, A Side Show of the Big Show*, published in 1882, in which he recalls his experiences in the Confederate Army in the western [theatre](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/theatre/) of the war.
