[Frederick Douglass](https://www.worldhistory.org/Frederick_Douglass/) moved to this house in the late 1870s and lived there until his [death](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Death/) in 1895. In 1988, the site was added to the list of National Historic Sites and now operates as a museum and educational center. This image was taken in 1977 for the Historic American Buildings Survey, which is a US government program that oversees the preservation of historic sites and reports on them.
