Giovanni Giolitti (1842 - 1928) was one of the protagonists of Italian politics, having been prime minister of [Italy](https://www.worldhistory.org/italy/) for five times. Giolitti was a master of the so-called *trasformismo*, the method of creating a flexible governing coalition that could isolate the far left and far right.
