The [Battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) of Chapultepec took place at the castle fortress of the same name where Mexican troops hoped to counter the U.S. advance into Mexico [City](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/). The taking of the fort was a pivotal moment in Mexican history, as it paved the way for the fall of capital of Mexico and its defeat in the [Mexican-American War](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mexican-American_War/).
