The Swanborough Tump Memorial records a meeting between King [Aethelred](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Aethelred/) of Wessex (reign 865-871) and his brother, [Alfred the Great](https://www.worldhistory.org/Alfred_the_Great/) (reign 871-899), in 870, where they made provisions for the inheritance of various estates to the children of whoever died first.
