A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra was a key [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) of the [Kingdom of Nabatea](https://www.worldhistory.org/Kingdom_of_Nabatea/), whose capital was based at Petra in [Jordan](https://www.worldhistory.org/Jordan/). The Nabateans were based at Hegra from the 1st century BCE to the early 2nd century CE.
