The Memorial to the [Battle of Edington](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2691/battle-of-edington/), also refered to as the [Battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) of Ethandun, is a sarsen stone monolith near Bratton Castle, Wiltshire, commemorating the defeat of the [Viking](https://www.worldhistory.org/Vikings/) army by [Alfred the Great](https://www.worldhistory.org/Alfred_the_Great/) in 878 CE.
