## Image Caption

Map detailing the massacre of Oradour-sur-Glane which took place on 10 June 1944, near Limoges in the south-west of France. During the Second World [War](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/War/) (1939-45), 643 innocent men, [women](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/women/) and children were killed by soldiers of the 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich in possible retaliation after the local resistance had captured SS Sturmbannführer Helmut Kämpfe (1909-44) in a nearby town the day before.
