A view of the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of [Europe](https://www.worldhistory.org/europe/), a memorial in Berlin to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust (1941-1945), from the Ministergärten. Designed by New York architect Peter Eisenman, the memorial covers 19,000 square metres in Berlin and is comprised of 2711 concrete 'stelae' of varying heights. The ground below the stelae is uneven, with ondulating slopes to give visitors the feeling of instability and uncertainty.

Construction began in April 2003 and the memorial was opened in May 2005, 60 years after the end of the Second World [War](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/War/) (1939-45).
