Mount Shasta is considered sacred by several [Native American](https://www.worldhistory.org/Native_Peoples_of_North_America/) nations including the Achomawi, Atsugewi, Karuk, Klamath, Modoc, Okwanuchu, Shasta, Wintu, and Yana.

Mount Shasta features prominently in the myths of many of these nations, including the Shasta's *Why Mount Shasta Erupted*.
