Most likely from North [Africa](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/africa/) dating from the late 9th to mid 10th-century, the celebrated Blue Qur'an was a luxurious book with pages dyed in indigo, and Kufic calligraphy in [gold](https://www.worldhistory.org/gold/) foil, and [silver](https://www.worldhistory.org/Silver/) bookmarks. Consisting of over 600 large folios (H. 11 15/16 in. (30.4 cm), W. 15 13/16 in. (40.2 cm)) Its pages were greatly valued items of scared art and sometime during the [Ottoman Empire](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ottoman_Empire/) the book was taken apart and its pages dispersed to different locations. Today they can be found at many different museums in both the Muslim World and the the West. (Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
