This painting establishes the Mughal Dynasty depicting [Timur Lane](https://www.worldhistory.org/Timur/) handing the crown to his grandson Babur who has his own son and heir Humayun also present.

Legend has it that as Humayun languished at the doors of [death](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Death/) with a toxic fever, Babur, after consulting a Chisti Sufi pir, offered himself to [God](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) in place of his son. Duly the son’s health waxed and his father’s waned, at last bringing him, in place of his beloved son, to his deathbed on the 21st of December 1530
