[Cheyenne](https://www.worldhistory.org/Cheyenne/) warrior Mochi ("Buffalo Calf", l. c. 1841-1881), pictured on the right, took up arms against US government forces after surviving the [Sand Creek Massacre](https://www.worldhistory.org/Sand_Creek_Massacre/) of 29 November 1864. Prior to the massacre, she was among those seeking peaceful relations with the United States. Photograph taken by an unknown photographer when she was a prisoner at Fort Marion, St. [Augustine](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Augustine/), Florida, in 1875.
