[Cheyenne](https://www.worldhistory.org/Cheyenne/) courting scenes by the Cheyenne artist Big Back, c. 1882. The scenes depict the sort of courtship ritual and acceptance of a proposed marriage as touched on in the [Ehyophsta Legend](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2508/ehyophsta-legend/) of the Cheyenne when Coyote Man offers his daughter in marriage to the two young men.

Illustration from *Our wild Indians; thirty-three years' personal experience among the red men of the great West* by Richard Irving Dodge, A. D. Worthington and Company, 1882, Hartford, Conn.
