[Paul](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Paul/)'s journey to [Rome](https://www.worldhistory.org/Rome/), undertaken as a prisoner appealing his case to the [Roman emperor](https://www.worldhistory.org/Roman_Emperor/) [Nero](https://www.worldhistory.org/Nero/) (r. 54-68 CE), involved perilous sea travel, including a shipwreck on the island of Malta. He finally arrived in Rome and continued his work under house arrest while awaiting his trial.
