[Paul the Apostle](https://www.worldhistory.org/Paul_the_Apostle/) undertook multiple missionary journeys across the [Roman Empire](https://www.worldhistory.org/Roman_Empire/) to spread [Christianity](https://www.worldhistory.org/christianity/), establish churches, and strengthen the faith of early Christians.

[Paul](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Paul/)'s second missionary journey, accompanied by Silas and later joined by Timothy and Luke, expanded his mission into [Europe](https://www.worldhistory.org/europe/) for the first time. It took him from [Antioch](https://www.worldhistory.org/Antiochia/) in [Syria](https://www.worldhistory.org/syria/) through [Asia Minor](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/) into Macedonia and [Greece](https://www.worldhistory.org/greece/), where he founded churches in key [cities](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) such as [Philippi](https://www.worldhistory.org/Philippi/), [Thessalonica](https://www.worldhistory.org/Thessalonica/), [Corinth](https://www.worldhistory.org/corinth/), and [Ephesus](https://www.worldhistory.org/ephesos/).
