Jahangir and His Vizier, I'timad al-Daula, folio from the Shah Jahan Album, ink, opaque watercolor, and [gold](https://www.worldhistory.org/gold/) on paper by Manohar, [India](https://www.worldhistory.org/india/), c. 1615.

Mughal emperor Jahangir (r. 1605-27) bestowed the title of l'timad al-Daula (meaning "reliance of the state") upon Mirza Ghiyas Beg, Nur Jahan's father, as they are depicted greeting each other in this miniature painting. Nur Jahan was Jahangir's last wife whom he married in 1611. As a result, l'timad al-Daula became the chief minister, a position he held until his [death](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Death/) in 1622.
