## Image Caption

This entrance [grave](https://www.worldhistory.org/burial/) [burial](https://www.worldhistory.org/burial/) mound also known as "The Great [Tomb](https://www.worldhistory.org/tomb/)" stands upon Porth Hellick Down on the island of St. Mary's in the Isles of Scilly, UK. Part of a [Bronze Age](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Bronze_Age/) cemetery that was in use circa 2500 to 800 BCE, it is the largest mound on Porth Hellick Down.

It was excavated in 1899 by the archaeologist George Bonsor, where he recovered a piece of pumice and several [Bronze](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/bronze/) Age [pottery](https://www.worldhistory.org/pottery/) shards. Bonsor restored parts of the cairn and removed an outer stone kerb, while the inner kerb was somewhat modified.
