View of the 14th-century Gergeti [Trinity](https://www.worldhistory.org/Trinity/) Church with Mount Kazbek (or Mount Kazbegi) in the background. Mount Kazbek is associated in Georgian folklore with the mighty hero Amirani, the Georgian version of [Prometheus](https://www.worldhistory.org/Prometheus/), who was chained on the mountain as punishment for stealing fire from the gods and giving it to humans. Lying at 5,054 meters (16,581 ft) above sea level, Mount Kazbek is the highest mountain in Eastern Georgia.
