Daughter of Emperor Francis I of Austria, she was the second wife of French Emperor [Napoleon I](https://www.worldhistory.org/Napoleon_Bonaparte/) and was therefore Empress of the French from 1810 until [Napoleon](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Napoleon/)'s first abdication in April 1814. She was the mother of Napoleon II.
