Famous meeting between French Emperor [Napoleon I](https://www.worldhistory.org/Napoleon_Bonaparte/) and Austrian diplomat Prince Klemens von Metternich at Dresden on 26 June 1813, to negotiate an end to the [War of the Sixth Coalition](https://www.worldhistory.org/War_of_the_Sixth_Coalition/). A heated argument broke out over Metternich's demands that [Napoleon](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Napoleon/) surrender most of his European conquests; shortly thereafter, Austria joined the Sixth Coalition against Napoleon.
