Archduke Charles of Austria, Duke of Teschen (1771-1847), brother of Austrian Emperor Francis I, and one of Austria's most capable generals during the [French Revolutionary Wars](https://www.worldhistory.org/French_Revolutionary_Wars/) (1792-1802) and the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815). He is best known for leading the Austrian army at the [Battle of Aspern-Essling](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2262/battle-of-aspern-essling/) and the [Battle of Wagram](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2267/battle-of-wagram/).
