## Image Caption

The Forum of Hippo Regius (modern Annaba, Algeria) was a rectangular paved area measuring 76 x 43 m. It was one of the largest forums in North [Africa](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/africa/). It features a long inscription extending in two lines across its entire width, represented by letters that would have been filled with [bronze](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/bronze/). The text records that the paving was dedicated by C. Paccius Africanus, *pontifex*, [consul](https://www.worldhistory.org/Consul/), proconsul, and patron of the *municipium* of Hippo.
