## Image Caption

A villa complex at Lixus on the Atlantic coast (modern-day Morocco) from the time of [Juba II](https://www.worldhistory.org/Juba_II/) (c. 48 BCE to 23 CE), the ruler of [Mauretania](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mauretania/). The [palace](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/palace/)-like residence was approximately 7,000 square metres with a long portico, a *triclinium* complex, a reception hall, a peristyle court, and exedras. This complex probably belonged to a courtier under Juba II.
