The [Battle of Thymbra](https://www.worldhistory.org/Battle_of_Thymbra/) (547 BCE) was the decisive engagement between [Cyrus II](https://www.worldhistory.org/Cyrus_the_Great/) (the Great, r. c. 550-530 BCE) of [Persia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Persia/) and [Croesus](https://www.worldhistory.org/croesus/) (r. 560-546 BCE), King of [Lydia](https://www.worldhistory.org/lydia/). The Persian victory, achieved in part by the use of camels, ended the Kingdom of Lydia. (From the *History of the Nations* by Walter Hutchinson)
