[Louis-Antoine de Saint-Just](https://www.worldhistory.org/Louis-Antoine_de_Saint-Just/) (1767-1794), a leader of the Jacobin Club and of the Mountain political faction, oil on canvas portrait by Pierre-[Paul](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Paul/) Prud'hon, 1793. Only 25 when he was elected to the National Convention, Saint-Just soon became known as the Archangel of Terror. He was executed alongside [Maximilien Robespierre](https://www.worldhistory.org/Maximilien_Robespierre/) on 9 Thermidor, Year II (28 July 1794), the event which marked the end of the [Reign of Terror](https://www.worldhistory.org/Reign_of_Terror/).
