## Image Caption

A depiction of [Croesus](https://www.worldhistory.org/croesus/) (r. 560-546 BCE), the King of [Lydia](https://www.worldhistory.org/lydia/) on a [Greek](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/greek/) [red-figure pottery](https://www.worldhistory.org/Red-Figure_Pottery/) vase. Lydia was a region in western [Asia Minor](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/) (modern-day [Turkey](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/)) and was so wealthy that the expression "as rich as Croesus" originates in reference to him.
