The [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/), known as the Theseion, is located in the Ancient [Agora](https://www.worldhistory.org/agora/) of [Athens](https://www.worldhistory.org/Athens/), [Greece](https://www.worldhistory.org/greece/). The temple's construction began in 449 BCE. It was built in honor of two gods, [Hephaestus](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hephaistos/) and [Athena](https://www.worldhistory.org/athena/).
