## Image Caption

An 1874 oil on canvas, *Molesey Weir, Hampton Court*, by [Alfred Sisley](https://www.worldhistory.org/Alfred_Sisley/) (1839-1899), the Franco-British impressionist painter. Here Sisley uses a variety of brushstrokes and has them in varying directions to give the picture dynamism and the sensation of water moving at great speed. (Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh)
