An 1880 oil on canvas, *Mrs Cassatt Reading to her Grandchildren*, by [Mary Cassatt](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mary_Cassatt/) (1844-1926), the American impressionist painter. The Mrs Cassatt here is the artist's mother. This painting found a buyer, but the Cassatt family was so against having a stranger possess such an intimate family portrait that the artist was obliged to buy it back again. (Private Collection)
