## Image Caption

A c. 1874 oil on canvas, *The Arceuil [Aqueduct](https://www.worldhistory.org/aqueduct/) at Sceaux [Railroad](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Railroad/) Crossing*, by Armand Guillaumin (1841-1927), the French impressionist painter. The impressionists were eager to show the new industrial [architecture](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/architecture/) of the age, such as railway bridges, especially when seen in contrast with rural scenery. Subjects like these marked Guillaumin and his fellow impressionists as being quite different from those artists who had come before. (Art Insitute of Chicago, USA)
