## Image Caption

This *[amphora](https://www.worldhistory.org/Amphora/)* is of the Nolan type, the name given to this class of red0figure vase found in large lumber in the town of Nola in Campania, southern [Italy](https://www.worldhistory.org/italy/).

It is decorated with a scene of an 'erotic' encounter between a female figure holding a myrtle branch for making a wreath and a male holding a ball or a round fruit. The duck depicted alludes to [Aphrodite](https://www.worldhistory.org/Aphrodite/), as one of her familiar attributes.
