## Image Caption

[Theseus](https://www.worldhistory.org/Theseus/) and the half-human, half-bovine [Minotaur](https://www.worldhistory.org/Minotaur/) are flanked by three maidens and four youths, probably a connotation to the sacrificial victims sent by the people of [Athens](https://www.worldhistory.org/Athens/) to King Minos of [Crete](https://www.worldhistory.org/crete/). The iconographic subjects on the other side and the inside of the vase indicate that this cup may have been owned by an athlete. Clay cups were used as drinking vessels at the [Symposium](https://www.worldhistory.org/Symposium/) after an athletic victory.
