# Castle Netzschkau

One of the first castles in Saxony, Germany, built at the end of the 15th century. It was rather residential, that defence-oriented. The builder of the Netzschkau Castle, Caspar Metzsch, was very influential at the [Saxon](https://www.worldhistory.org/Saxons/) court. This promoted the financing and the realization of his building project. He was probably able to fall back on the students of the builder of Albrechtburg in Meißen.
In the 17th century, Carol Bose determined the further design of the castle. At a young age, he fought for the French king and received numerous awards. The castle has been renovated, modernized and expanded. The magnate of the area known as the Vogtland extended Schloss Netzschkauen with two more wings. The then horseshoe-shaped building complex also received a chapel. Initially, it was only intended for the owners of the castle. He also had the outdated wooden ceilings of the castle beautified with stucco decorations. The walls also received an embellished appearance. It was probably thanks to Bose's power that his Netzschkau property was not plundered during the [Thirty Years' War](https://www.worldhistory.org/Thirty_Years'_War/).
In the second half of the 19th century, a [palace](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/palace/) park in the English style was laid out. After 1944 the castle fell into disrepair, with the chapel ceasing to exist, but the complex was renovated after 1990.
